Alabama Hills Photoshoot

Eastern Sierra, California

Alabama Hills sits just outside of Lone Pine in the high desert of the Eastern Sierra in California. This area is known for its rounded, weathered rock formations set against the dramatic peaks of the Sierra Nevada, including views of Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States. The landscape has been featured in hundreds of films and Westerns over the years, but in person it feels quiet and expansive. Dirt roads wind through natural arches and granite formations, opening up to wide views of the mountains.

We photographed this session during golden hour at sunset, as the light softened and reflected warm tones off the stone. The desert here does not need much. Neutral colors, simple silhouettes, and natural movement work beautifully against the scale of the landscape. What makes this location special is the contrast. Rugged terrain. Gentle light. Open space in every direction. For sessions in the Eastern Sierra, Alabama Hills remains one of my favorite places to explore and photograph in an environment that feels both grounded and expansive.
